Causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis
By admin | October 16, 2008
Immune system changes are associated with the causes of rheumatoid arthritis and these can lead to very painful symptoms. Normally our body is protected by our immune systems, however, for people who are dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system will attack the bodies own tissues. Common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are:
- Swelling in the joints
- Fatigue
- Fever
- General aches or pain
- Redness in joints
- Morning stiffness
Rheumatoid arthritis, the causes of which are not known is considered a chronic disease. Some research has shown that rheumatoid arthritis may be triggered by an infection in the body. People who are suffering from this arthritic condition may have difficulty getting out of bed in the mornings. Even prolonged sitting can cause some people to experience pain.
There may be other symptoms prevalent in people who are stricken with this disease. Severe fatigue, muscle pain, weakness and lumps under the skin. When diagnosing the disease, doctors may ask a series of questions relating to pain felt in the body, specifically when and where the pain occurs.
Medications and therapies are the usual course of treatment from your health care professionals. There are also alternative therapies available for rheumatoid arthritis. Some people can find relief through the use of acupuncture, nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements and herbal remedies. If you use alternative therapies make sure you do this in conjunction with your health care professionals, to eliminate any negative interaction with medications or ongoing treatments.
Patients with this disease can also suffer from depression and stress. Since the causes of rheumatoid arthritis are not known and the pain can be so severe, many people will experience depression and anxiety. These feelings are caused due to the anxiety and stress of having this disease. These will also be included in the treatment of the disease if your doctors consider it necessary.
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis may also increase or seem worse with changes in the weather. Cold weather especially, may make the common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis seem worse. Cold hands and feet are a problem that is magnified when the weather is very cold. Hot relaxing bathes may help relieve some of the pain. An exercise regimen can be very beneficial. Short walks and exercise that is not stressful or cause pain will minimize stiffness caused by prolonged sitting.
Pain related to rheumatoid arthritis can be aggravated by overexertion through physical activity, stress and anxiety, fatigue and focusing on the pain. The causes of rheumatoid arthritis are still unknown, but having a positive outlook can provide much comfort. Exercise, medications, massage and other treatments along with a positive attitude can help cope with the pain associated with the disease. There are also support groups that can be found in your local community and online. You will find that you are not alone in dealing with your disease.
